Vermont Adventure–Grandma’s Playhouse

The playhouse at my grandma’s house is the best.  If there is a playhouse by your house, you should play in it.

The first reason to play in a playhouse is because my cousins play with me in it every time I go there.  They are very fun to play with.  One time we made a salad for dinner there.  We have a game with a string and a ball where you toss the ball on a string and try to catch it.

The second reason you should try a playhouse is it is fun when there is someone to play with me in it.  My cousins and I use my grandma’s garden to make salad.

The third reason is it has a counter and a shelf.  We put a bowl for a sink and a faucet that doesn’t really work.  My grandma lets me light the candle.

My conclusion is that playhouses are fun when friends and family play with you!

The Orford Camping Trip

This summer I went to Orford to camp.  It was so fun!  You should camp in the campground.

In fact, I got to live there.  I liked it very much.  They changed the water in the pool to salt water.  It is easier to open my eyes underwater now.

We visited old friends and neighbors.  We played with new friends.  We roasted marshmallows and hot dogs for dinner.

We stayed for three days and two nights.  I took a walk every morning and took a shower every morning.

I had the best time ever.  You should really go there.

My tent took a long time to put up, but it was still worth the wait.  I want to go next summer.  It is a long drive there and back, but as I said, it is worth it.  I would do anything to go back.  You really should go.

Sneaker Adventure

It all started with our TA Cade’s sneaker obsession.  He has over 35 pairs in his collection!

As we’ve been enjoying our spectacular read aloud, The Wild Robot Escapes, we wondered . . . . . What would happen if Cade’s sneakers decided to escape?

Sneaker Adventure

by Garter Scale

One day a pair of Cade’s sneakers, Rine and Toshua, were fed up.  They wanted to travel the world.

Cade was wearing a different pair of sneakers.  They saw their chance to escape, so they ran as fast as they could.  Cade did not even notice.

“Let’s go to the sneaker store,” said Rine.

When they got there, their mouths went dry, so they went to the shoe store.  Something wasn’t right!  There was a pair missing one shoe.  So Toshua and Rine were on the case.  Sneaker detectives!

They snuck in every house on the block, but still no shoe to be seen.

“There is no way we are going to find the shoe,” Rine said.

“But we are still going to find it,” said Toshua.

“I’m not going to give up either,” said Rine.  There is still hope.

“Let’s go to bed now and try again in the morning.  We will finish our case!”

Spring Explodes!

The green trees are upon the earth’s surface.

The sun helps the flowers grow.

The flowers need their green stems to collect water and nutrients

To help them survive.

My favorite thing about spring . . . .

is the GREEN!

Spring is my favorite season!

The Colonial Candlemaker

Hello!  I am the candle maker.  I dip candles and sometimes sell them.  I keep most of my candles.

To make my candles, I pick wax berries.  The wax berries are very waxy. Take the wax off of the berries.  Put the wax into the cauldron. Let it sit for ten minutes. Then dip the wicks into the wax.

You should have twenty-five wicks and five sticks with five wicks on each stick.  Dip one stick at a time until all five have been dipped. Repeat for about three hours.  They should be thick enough by then.

Once they are cool, cut the wick that combines the two candles and flatten the bottom of the candle by cutting with a knife.  The candles should be done now.

Virtual Visit to the Alaskan Iditarod

I chose Kristy Berrington as my musher during the Iditarod because she is good at racing.  She is also young.  She is smart on the trails.

I read Silver during the Iditarod.  It takes place in a cold place in America.  The main character is Abigail.  I made a prediction that the dad would crash in the race because I think that it sounds like he might.  The girl was talking about her life.  She had a puppy on her birthday.  She was teaching the puppy how to do the Iditarod.  She was interested in how the puppy had a brown eye and a blue eye.  She thought her dad might take the puppy if it was strong.  I think the girl getting her own puppy for her birthday is exciting because she really wanted to go in a sled race when she was old enough.

I learned a lot about mushing during the race.  The dogs pull on the chains.  They want to run and run and run.  The dogs are very smart.  It is hard work for the mushers and the dogs, but they are good at racing.  They love to sleep in their straw in the cold.  The sled dogs sometimes eat moose stew.

I made a list of strong Iditarod verbs to use in my writing.  I chose eat, run, care, blow, yip, jump, snack, and bump.
